Elementary Education
Major
What is Elementary Education?
Elementary education is a major for
people who want to become teachers in an elementary school.
Students of this major further concentrate their specialty
on either special or regular educational teaching services.
Each state has a licensure requirement for teachers. Graduation
in this major generally fulfills the requirements for
someone to qualify for licensure in the state the university
is located in. Although curriculum and instruction graduates
take many education courses, they also are generally expected
to match these courses with a major in another academic
field.
Preparation in this major trains the
student to design, develop and implement instructional
programs. The student will learn the most effective ways
to communicate with students so they may learn. The curriculum
and instruction major learns about how children develop
and learn in order to most effectively teach them.

What Types of Positions do Elementary
Education Majors Take After College?
These professions and professional organizations
illustrate the types of positions you might qualify for
if you complete this major. Some majors are more directly
related to employment than others, however. You should
consider the likelihood of employment after graduation
carefully, if you do not plan to go on for graduate work
in a field. Even with the completion of graduate work
in some fields, however, employment is difficult, so you
should determine what the prospects are for this or any
major. Employment possibilities are often enhanced by
the selecting employment-related courses and by the enrollment
in second major or in a minor.
