Healthcare Administration
Major
What is Healthcare Administration?
The healthcare administration major
combines courses from a number of traditional academic
fields to link the concerns of administration and health
care. This major centers on the administering of services
to people in need of health care. Students develop an
understanding of health and disease, as well as of the
organization, financing and delivery of health care. Graduates
are prepared to assist in planning, financing, directing,
coordination, managing and evaluating healthcare services.
Graduates work in such agencies as hospitals, ambulatory
care facilities, long-term health maintenance facilities,
wellness centers, health and mental health agencies, health
maintenance and insurance organizations, and hospice services.

What Types of Positions do Healthcare
Administration Majors Take After College?
These professions and professional organizations
illustrate the types of positions you might qualify for
if you complete this major. Some majors are more directly
related to employment than others, however. You should
consider the likelihood of employment after graduation
carefully, if you do not plan to go on for graduate work
in a field. Even with the completion of graduate work
in some fields, however, employment is difficult, so you
should determine what the prospects are for this or any
major. Employment possibilities are often enhanced by
the selecting employment-related courses and by the enrollment
in second major or in a minor.
