What Kinds of Students Major
in Pre-Law?
Law schools are primarily interested
in students who possess strong analytical and communication
skills. They prefer students who have a diverse educational
background to those who have a narrow academic focus.
Thus, students planning to attend law school may select
virtually any undergraduate major. Competition for admission
to top-ranked law schools is quite intense. To be seriously
considered by one of these schools, it helps to have a
high GPA and a strong performance on the LSAT exam. Students
who major in law are individuals who are well adapted
to hard work and rigorous schedules involving multiple
classes and a lot of studying. Individuals in this major
are focused upon becoming professional lawyers, judges,
prosecutors, corporate ?in house? counsel or some other
law-related positions. These individuals usually like
to be in positions of influence within society and like
to know that they make a positive difference in the world
in what they do.

What Courses Do Pre-Law Majors
Take?
Although law school requires a well-rounded,
academically rigorous education, there is no single required
list of courses. There are many undergraduate programs
which provide an excellent, demanding education, and which
help you to develop skills that will be useful in studying
and practicing law. Since students in Pre-Law can come
from a variety of majors, so the identification of courses
to take is usually made within the major selected. The
courses listed below, suggest a major in political science
or criminal justice.

What Types of Positions do
Pre-Law Majors Take After College?
These professions and professional organizations
illustrate the types of positions you might qualify for
if you complete this major. Some majors are more directly
related to employment than others, however. You should
consider the likelihood of employment after graduation
carefully, if you do not plan to go on for graduate work
in a field. Even with the completion of graduate work
in some fields, however, employment is difficult, so you
should determine what the prospects are for this or any
major. Employment possibilities are often enhanced by
the selecting employment-related courses and by the enrollment
in second major or in a minor. This major is designed
to move a student into graduate work, rather than into
a profession immediately upon graduation. Career opportunities
immediately after graduation depend on the major actually
selected.
