What is a Concentration?

Larger universities frequently organize themselves into colleges within the university. There may be colleges of business, agriculture, liberal arts and journalism, for example. Within these colleges, a number of majors may be offered that are quite different from one another, yet students are expected to fulfill many common course requirements in addition to requirements specific to their “major.” When the term “concentration” is used, this generally means that a student receives a degree in a broad field like business or agriculture. The concentration is what one normally thinks of as a major, but the term “major” may not appear on your degree or transcript.
