Indiana State University alumna Christina Allen Greive is a museum professional who puts her ISU education to use in her multidisciplinary endeavors.

Her BFA and BA degrees in both studio arts and art history earned at Indiana State University prepared her for master’s-degree work in museum studies at Western Illinois University. Additionally, she had her first professional experiences at ISU, learning art studio and resource-management skills while working at the University Art Gallery and managing the printmaking and sculpture labs

Since then she has worked at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa, where she planned museum events and programs, taught studio classes and oversaw the museum’s internship program. She has also worked with museum holdings—at the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Kentucky she helped to manage a collection of more than 35,000 historical objects and artworks.

Using the communication, organization and community outreach skills learned at ISU and WIU, Greive directed the Boys and Girls Clubs in Louisville, where she oversaw all of the staff programs and grants. She also leveraged her creative skills to enhance the organization’s marketing strategies and successful membership drives.

She has recently moved back to Indiana where she is helping the Indianapolis Museum of Art to organize data and documents regarding the museum’s extensive art collections. She shares her expertise at ISU as the professor of the curatorial practices course in which she teaches art students how to evaluate art exhibitions and to create, through hands-on, experiential learning, exhibitions of their own.

Greive says of her university experience, “ISU provided me with a well-rounded general education that helped me excel in other areas besides my degrees. Taking general education courses in addition to studio and art history courses gave me different skill sets and abilities that I have since applied to my career.”
