This time, MyMajors gave me this order:
– Theater
– Journalism
– Creative Writing

– Classical Studies
Both are accurate! Granted, there’s not a lot of variation, but the orders make sense for the times in my life when I took the quizzes. For example, in high school, though my passion was definitely theater, it seemed that I was going to write, and indeed I was writing a lot more than I am now. I even entertained applying to NYU for dramatic writing instead of acting. Now I spend three long, active days of the week in Tisch in the Experimental Theater Wing along with two fully academic days, and I know that I could never have had it any other way. I like moving around and being with people – I am simply not a sit around all day in front of the computer kind of person. But obviously, I still love to write – especially with pen and paper and outside in nice weather 🙂
I really like the MyMajors quiz – the scales are a really good way to gage our interests and potential – so I would definitely say to keep an open mind to what comes up, especially if you never thought that the results would suit you! I also think that it’s great that us bloggers were asked to retake the quiz. It’s good to keep in mind that our interests and skills can shift slightly or totally change over time, and sometimes it’s best to go with the flow instead of forcing a major because it seems more ‘practical‘ or ‘lucrative‘.
You might as well do something that makes you happy if you’re going to do it for so long, right? 🙂 That, and it’s never too late to change career paths. Life’s a winding river! I may have five or six or seven different jobs or careers before I retire. It’ll be a life well lived.
Oh. And Network.
It’s scary how quickly the time is passing. I almost missed October; when someone reminded me that Halloween was this Wednesday, my jaw hit the floor. A hurricane is also supposed to be hitting sometime tonight or tomorrow, and it may last up to 72 hours… We are stocked up on batteries and flashlights, dry foods, water, and certainly company.
My best to the north east coast in this battle. May the odds be ever in your favor!
