Senior Year: The Final Building Block

Senior year is crucial as the last building block to my college application process. In addition to using it as an opportunity to show that I am ready for college level courses by taking AP Literature and AP U.S. Government & Politics, I’ll also work part time at my family’s restaurant, Parkside Grille. I’ll continue to participate as an active member in American Cancer Society and liaison for the Teen Advisory Board at the Saratoga Library, and hopefully accept an officer position at my school’s National Alliance on Mental Illness club. I’ll resume frequenting my counselor’s office to ask for her opinion on my college essays, applications, and selections. I hope to receive an academic scholarship; ex: winning a writing contest! Before applications, I’ll retake the ACT once more to see if I improve my score. I’m also excited to go on college campus trips in order to get a feel for the college environment. I think that’s an important factor in terms of deciding which college is a right fit.

Finally, a goal for myself is to do my best in track & field this year by winning a race/event and/or an award by the end-of-the-season banquet. Not only will I have bragging rights afterwards, but I can utilize those accomplishments to my advantage by presenting them to college admission officers! In search for the perfect college, I’ll definitely look at the location and academic environment. I also feel it’s important to see what I can afford and if the social scene would be beneficial or distracting towards me. Furthermore, I’ll take senior year as a chance to mature and prepare myself for the challenges that lie ahead in college while having fun! Plus, I’m stoked to blog because I can express myself and guide other kids like me!

Nikki

Greetings MyMajors viewers--the name's Nikki, and if there’s one thing you should know about me it’s I’m crazy OCD about words (ask my mom, I’ve got a dictionary on my nightstand) because I love literature and writing. Here's the spiel: I'm stuck in my "adolessons" for the time being. In vain, I try not to be a pessimist but revert to being an optimist (especially when it comes to college). Hopefully, these entries will catch a glimpse of the person I was, am, and will be--plus you’ll feel a little less alone in the college application process :) So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
